MEDIAWORKS: MarSU’s Communication Media Unit

Marinduque State University’s Communication Media Unit or MediaWorks, under the Office of the University President, has evolved significantly over the years. Previously known as the Office of Media & International Affairs (OMIA), it has undergone several organizational changes.

In the early 2000s, during the tenure of then College President Prof. Romulo H. Malvar, the Management Information Systems (MIS) unit was established at the College Library. This unit managed the operations of the College Audio Visual Room (AVR) and provided media production services. It was later reorganized into the Knowledge and Information Management Systems (KIMS), initially headed by Dr. Randy T. Nobleza, and subsequently by Asst. Prof. Anna Roffel O. Lozada.

In 2015, under the leadership of President Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, the Office of Media and International Affairs was created pursuant to BOT Resolution No. 16 series of 2016. This office, headed by Mr. Ramoncito O. Mandia, was tasked with gathering and disseminating institutional information, providing communication media services, and spearheading the planning, implementation, and monitoring of MSC’s Internationalization program.

Fast forward to 2024, University President Prof. Diosdado P. Zulueta established a separate International Relations Office, allowing OMIA to focus on information gathering and packaging. Consequently, OMIA was transformed into the Communication Media Unit, also known as MediaWorks.

The Communication Media Unit operates as part of a larger informal Media Team, which includes the Information Unit, The Presidential Management Staff, and the Information and Communication Technology Services Center (ICTSC).

Key Role: The primary role of the Communication Media Unit, or MediaWorks, is to support the university in achieving its mission and vision and to maintain a positive public image by effectively communicating with stakeholders.
