Sta. Cruz, Marinduque, Philippines — The Marinduque State University Sta. Cruz Campus hosted the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill in coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense MIMAROPA on September 26, 2024 at MarSU Matalaba, Sta. Cruz, Marinduque.
After the preliminaries, Ms. Lenie Z. Rodriguez (Executive Assistant) who represented Prof. Diosdado P. Zulueta (University President) delivered the opening message emphasizing the importance of resilience and safety during disaster and its application to MarSU’s academic pursuit toward national preparedness framework.
It was shortly followed by another message from Hon. Marisa Red-Martinez (Municipal Mayor of Sta. Cruz, Marinduque) represented by Mr. Hansel Rementilla who extended her support and wishes for the activity. Ms. Susan Palmero, Punong Barangay of Brgy. Matalaba also welcomed everyone and expressed support for the activity.
Additionally, Hon. Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco (Congressman, Lone District of Marinduque) also gave his inspirational message, represented by Hon. Sonny Paglinawan, who expressed his appreciation and support for the activity as an advocate of disaster preparedness in the country.
The ceremonial pressing of the buzzer signaled the commencement of the drill. The Earthquake drill showcased the Marinduque State University’s Incident Management Team and Student Volunteers who actively participated in the demonstration.
After the end of the drill, the evaluation and feedback were facilitated by representatives from Bureau of Fire Protection, MarSU DRRMO, MarSU Health Services Unit, Department of Interior and Local Government, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Philippine National Police.
To finally close the program, Mr. Wilmer L. Imperio II (Campus Director-MarSU Sta. Cruz) delivered his message expressing appreciation for the support and cooperation of everyone who joined the activity.
