MSCCA launches new Talk series on National Heritage Month

Marinduque State College Culture and the Arts (MSCCA) started anew with “Tertulyang Pamana” last May 7 with the Food Culture in Marinduque. In coordination with the MSC School of Industrial Technology, faculty-researcher and graduate scholar from Philippine Women’s University Ernani Sto. Domingo presented the preliminary results of his masteral thesis. Along with the Local Government of Mogpog Tourism and Cultural Office shared their ongoing Cultural Mapping Project and Heritage Inventory during episode 1 of Tertulyang Pamana.
Taking the inspiration of tertulia or gathering despite the pandemic and new normal state of affairs, MSCCA retools local studies, cultural workers and heritage researchers. The next episode is going to be streamed live in MSCCA TV, the YouTube channel of the lone state college in the province every Friday this month of May from 11.30am to 12.30pm. On May 14, Buenavista Cultural Mapping through its initial output of the coffee table book, “Small Town of Great Vista” would be a reviewed by a social anthropology scholar from the University of Baguio, Jimbo Fatalla. By May 21, the Santa Cruz Cultural Mapping team would also be presenting their progress in finalizing their Local Cultural Profile. Likewise, in May 28 Gasan Cultural Mapping team would be discussing the results of their community validation held last April 29 and May 10.
The MSCCA head, Dr. Randy Nobleza has been involved in Cultural Mapping projects since 2018 in Mogpog and Buenavista. He has been a co-facilitator of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Subcommission on Cultural Heritage with Ms. Aina dela Rosa, Ms. PG Guba and Mr. Rama Marcaida. Dr. Nobleza also facilitated the training of local mappers in Santa Cruz and Gasan last October 2020 and February 2021 respectively.
The most recent series of Virtual Tertulyang Pampanitikan took place last April 16, 23 and 30 at the MSC branches in Santa Cruz, Torrijos and Gasan. MSCCA closed the Filipino Food Month and National Literature Month with the first episode of Tertulyang Pamana hosted by the MSC Mogpog extramural study center last May 7 to usher in the celebration of National Heritage Month.
