Boac, Marinduque, Philippines — The 2024 General Orientation for freshmen was held on July 25, 2024 at the MarSU Gymnasium, Boac, Marinduque. It aimed to orient the students on various services and resources to navigate their academic journey smoothly.

Hosted by Ms. Jholey Rose L. Lancion, the program commenced with a welcome and introduction from Ms. Portia P. Orlina (Head, Testing Information and Orientation Services) who delivered the statement of purpose. Additionally, Asso. Prof. Marvin P. Plata-Vice President for Student Affairs Services gave his welcome message followed by the message of Asst. Prof. Raoul J. Magcamit-Vice President for Academic Affairs who also represented the University President, Prof. Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta.

The MarSU history, mission, vision and core values was delivered by Ms. Desiree Anne Sto. Domingo (Information Officer III) through a video presentation. The introduction of the 12 colleges of the university followed shortly through their prepared audio-visual presentations led by their respectice College Deans.

A brief checking of the students’ understanding of the foundations of the University served as the orientation’s ice breaker where the students willingly participated.

On the other hand, the introduction of student affairs and services started with the student welfare unit where Ms. Orlina represented the Director, Asst. Prof. Emelita Rodelas-Director for the Student Welfare Unit who lobbied the guidance and counseling and testing information and orientation. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Romulo H. Malvar oriented the career and job placement unit while Ms. Lynle Mendoza focused on the student assistantship and economic enterprise development.

For the student development, Asst. Prof. Arnel M. Lantita-Director for Student Development tackled the student organization and activities, student publication, student volunteer and community outreach, and student discipline.

Moreover, the student program and services was discussed by Asst. Prof. Rosalyn J. Dasco-Director for Student Programs and Services which focused on the admission and registration, health and safety services, learning resources services, sports and wellness,, culture and arts, multi-faith services, scholarship grants and financial assistance services, student housing and residential services, foreign and international student services, NSTP, alumni relations and SAS research unit. The respective heads also gave brief presentation of their units.

The activity concluded with the closing remarks from the Campus Director, Asso. Prof. Julie P. Rodelas and the singing of the MarSU Hymn.
